Sea Kayaking Expedition – Kalpitiya – 3 nights 4 days – US$ 700/person

Rich in natural beauty, Kalpitiya’s history is no less interesting. Records going far back reveal that the peninsula was associated with maritime trade and smuggling escapades since ancient times. It is a marine sanctuary with a diversity of habitats ranging from bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpans, mangrove swamps, salt marshes and vast sand dune beaches. It provides nursing grounds for many species of fish and crustaceans. The coastal waters are also home to spinner, bottlenose and Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and the elusive dugong.  This expedition explores the string of island which run just off shore and north and we return on the lagoon side of the islands heading back to our put in.  The island are thin in some places only a few hundred meters wide yet the difference between sea side and lagoon side is huge.  This makes this round trip unique as half the trip will be sea side and the other half is lagoon side.  We often buy fresh fish from local fisherman and camp on deserted beaches.  Many fishing villages along the route offers opportunities to shower off the day’s salt water and explore areas few tourist come in contact with.
